Music Therapy Oxford
What is music therapy?
Music therapy is an established psychological therapy delivered by HCPC registered music therapists to help children and adults whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability. Shared music-making can be used in both active and passive ways to support emotional, psychological and social development, and to enhance quality of life. The innate qualities of music, and our instinctive human response are used to support people at all stages of life; from helping parents to bond with new born babies to offering compassionate care at the end of life. The therapeutic relationship that is created between therapist and client is central, and many musical styles and instruments can be used. A client is encouraged and helped to find their own musical voice to connect with others and express themselves
Who Can Benefit?
Musical communication does not depend on the ability to speak, so it can be an effective intervention for any who cannot communicate verbally. Working with music therapists can be life-changing for children, families and older adults who are sometimes isolated from community life.
As registered Allied Health Professionals, music therapists are able to work as members of multi-disciplinary teams in health, education or social care - or in private practice.
